Skill Mismatch and Earnings Gains in Employment Among Senegalese Secondary School Dropouts: Insights from Vocational Training Programmes

Abstract
This study examines the impact of vocational training programmes on employment outcomes for Senegalese secondary school dropouts in Dakar. Vocational training participants were surveyed to assess their skills, employment status, and earnings post-training. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire administered in urban areas of Dakar. Participants who completed the vocational training showed significant improvements in their skill indexes, with an average increase of 20% compared to pre-training levels. Vocational training programmes appear effective in enhancing employability and earnings among secondary school dropouts in Senegal. Policy makers should invest more in vocational training programmes for secondary school dropouts to mitigate skill mismatch issues and improve economic outcomes.
