Abstract

Smallholder farming systems in Kenya are complex and multifaceted, influenced by a variety of socio-economic and environmental factors. There is a need for robust methodological frameworks to evaluate their performance effectively. A randomized field trial will be conducted with smallholder farms across different regions in Kenya. Clinical outcome assessments will measure yield, financial returns, and sustainability metrics under controlled conditions to evaluate interventions aimed at improving farm productivity and resilience. This randomized field trial approach offers a systematic method for assessing the efficacy of interventions in smallholder farming systems, providing empirical evidence that can inform agricultural policy and practice. The findings from this study should be used to develop targeted agricultural policies and investment strategies for smallholders. Future research should explore scalability and sustainability of these interventions across diverse contexts. The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
