Cultural Preservation Efforts in Urban Zambian Indigenous Language Communities: Retention Rates and Heritage Maintenance
Abstract
Urban Zambian communities face challenges in maintaining indigenous languages due to rapid urbanization and cultural shifts. Qualitative analysis of existing data on language revitalization programmes and community surveys conducted by local NGOs and government initiatives. Urban Zambian ILCs demonstrate resilience in language retention efforts but require tailored strategies to ensure long-term cultural heritage maintenance. Communities should prioritise inclusive educational systems, support for language teachers, and public awareness campaigns to sustain indigenous languages into the future.
