Strategic Approaches to Indigenous Language Preservation in Nigerian Educational Systems

Abstract

Indigenous languages in Nigeria have faced significant challenges due to colonial legacy and language policies that prioritise English over indigenous languages. Literature review of existing policies and practices related to language preservation in education. Effective integration of indigenous languages requires a multifaceted approach involving policy reform, teacher training, and community engagement. Recommendation for policymakers to mandate the inclusion of indigenous language in primary education curricula and provide targeted support for implementation.
