Adoption Dynamics of Climate-Resilient Crops in North African Oasis Communities: A Replication Study

Abstract

North African oasis communities face significant climate variability, necessitating the adoption of resilient crop varieties to ensure food security. The study employed a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to assess the diffusion process of climate-resistant crop varieties among local farmers. A notable proportion (35%) of surveyed farmers adopted at least one new resilient crop variety, driven primarily by perceived yield increases and reduced water usage compared to traditional crops. The replication study supports initial findings on the adoption dynamics of climate-resilient crops in North African oases, emphasising the importance of farmer education and policy incentives for sustainable agricultural practices. Intensify farmer training programmes focused on climate-resilient crop varieties and implement targeted policies to facilitate wider adoption and enhance food security in the region. The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
