Abstract

This review examines the evaluation of district hospitals' performance in Ghana, focusing on yield improvement methodologies. A systematic approach was employed to identify, assess, and synthesize relevant literature. A Bayesian hierarchical model was utilised for quantifying yield improvement across hospitals in Ghanaian districts from to . The analysis revealed a significant proportion (85%) of district hospitals underperforming their potential, with variability in performance attributed to regional disparities. Bayesian hierarchical modelling offers robust insights into yield improvement strategies for Ghanaian district hospitals. Future research should explore model extension and validation across different regions. Policy makers are encouraged to implement targeted interventions based on the identified yield gaps, utilising Bayesian hierarchical models as a framework for continuous improvement. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p<em>i)=\beta</em>0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
