Abstract

Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) in Botswana is a significant initiative aimed at sustainable management of wildlife resources by local communities. A scoping review approach was employed, synthesizing existing literature from peer-reviewed journals, reports, and grey literature relevant to CBNRM practices in Botswana. Analysing thematic maps of CBNRM success rates revealed a spatial distribution pattern where the eastern regions showed higher implementation effectiveness (85%) compared to western areas (60%). CBNRM efforts have demonstrated varying levels of success across different regions, with notable challenges including resource scarcity and community engagement variability. Enhanced community participation through tailored training programmes can improve CBNRM outcomes in Botswana, particularly in less successful regions.
