Abstract
In Kampala's informal settlements, solid waste management faces significant challenges due to inadequate infrastructure and limited resources. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews (\(n=30)\) and quantitative data analysis of waste collection patterns (\(n=12\) months). Recycling initiatives have led to a 45% reduction in organic waste sent for landfill, with higher participation rates among women compared to men. The recycling programmes demonstrate potential as an effective intervention in informal settlement solid waste management. Scaling up successful models and integrating them into broader waste management strategies is recommended. Recycling Programmes, Solid Waste Management, Informal Settlements, Kampala
