Impact Evaluation of Renewable Energy Micro-Grids on Somali Herder Livelihood Stability in Tanzania,

Abstract

This study examines the impact of renewable energy micro-grids on the livelihood stability of Somali herders in Tanzania. A mixed-method approach combining quantitative data from surveys and interviews with qualitative insights from field observations was employed. Data analysis included regression models for econometric evaluation of impact. The findings indicate that herders who adopted renewable energy micro-grids reported an increase in income by 15% compared to those without, suggesting a significant improvement in their economic stability. Renewable energy micro-grids have proven effective in enhancing the livelihood stability of Somali herders in Tanzania, with noticeable reductions in financial risk and uncertainty. Future interventions should focus on expanding access to these technologies while providing training programmes for sustainable use and maintenance.
