Supply Chain Resilience in Ethiopian Agriculture: A Survey of Climate Shocks Responses
Abstract
Climate variability poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity in Ethiopia, affecting supply chains from production to consumption. A mixed-methods survey approach was employed, combining quantitative data on supply chain performance metrics with qualitative insights from farmer interviews. Farmers reported a notable 20% reduction in crop yields during drought years compared to non-drought years, highlighting the vulnerability of agricultural systems to climate variability. Despite challenges, farmers exhibit resilience through diversified cropping practices and community support networks, suggesting potential pathways for improving supply chain sustainability. Investment in early warning systems, irrigation infrastructure, and farmer training programmes is recommended to enhance resilience against future climate shocks.
