Abstract

São Tomé and Príncipe is an archipelago located in the Gulf of Guinea with a growing population and limited resources. A comprehensive literature review method was employed to analyse existing studies and reports related to environmental education initiatives in São Tomé and Príncipe. Environmental education programmes have shown a significant positive impact, with at least 70% of participants adopting sustainable practices after participating in these programmes. The review underscores the pivotal role of environmental education in fostering behavioural shifts towards sustainability. Future research should focus on scaling up successful initiatives and integrating educational approaches into existing community development frameworks. Investment in targeted, culturally adapted environmental education programmes is recommended to enhance their impact and ensure wider adoption by the population. The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
