Abstract

Burundi faces significant climate-related challenges, particularly in its vulnerable regions such as Burera and Ruyigi districts. A qualitative study involving interviews with local stakeholders and analysis of government policies related to climate change adaptation in Burundi's vulnerable regions. Interviews revealed a preference among community members for direct financial support over indirect benefits like infrastructure projects, indicating a need for more direct funding mechanisms. Climate justice approaches highlight the importance of equitable resource allocation and community participation in adaptation efforts. The findings suggest that targeted adaptive financing could be more effective in Burundi’s vulnerable regions. Develop tailored climate adaptation programmes that prioritise direct financial support, involve local communities in decision-making, and ensure transparency and accountability in funding distribution.
