Abstract
Urban agriculture has emerged as a critical component in addressing food security challenges in urban areas of Senegal, particularly in Dakar. A comprehensive review approach was employed, analysing data from official government reports, interviews with local stakeholders, and surveys conducted among urban farmers and consumers in selected neighborhoods. The analysis revealed a significant increase of over 30% in the production of fresh vegetables and fruits by urban farms within the study area, contributing to an estimated 15% reduction in food imports. While the policy has shown promising results in enhancing local food supply, there are challenges related to infrastructure development and market access that need further attention. Further investment is required in improving irrigation systems and marketing channels for urban farms to sustain their growth and impact on food security.
