Abstract
The Historical Foundations of Contemporary Governance Challenges in Guinea-Bissau examine the roots of current governance issues within the context of African Studies. An analytical approach using archival research and comparative analysis to trace the origins of these challenges over time. A key theme identified is the legacy of colonial rule, evident in bureaucratic inefficiencies and political instability which have persisted since independence. The findings suggest that addressing these historical legacies through targeted policy reforms could enhance governance effectiveness in Guinea-Bissau. Developing a comprehensive anti-corruption strategy and strengthening the judiciary are recommended to mitigate ongoing governance challenges.
