Abstract

Digital preservation of cultural heritage in West Africa is an emerging field within African Studies. No empirical data was collected; instead, this commentary synthesizes existing literature and expert insights on digital preservation techniques. Digital preservation efforts must balance technological innovation with cultural sensitivity to effectively preserve and share West African cultural heritage. Communities should be actively involved in decision-making processes for digital preservation initiatives, and there is a need for more collaborative research between scholars and practitioners.
