Abstract

Urban primary care networks in Ghana aim to improve access to healthcare services for residents of urban areas. However, their effectiveness and sustainability have not been thoroughly evaluated. A systematic literature review was conducted to identify relevant studies that utilised quasi-experimental designs for assessing the impact of urban primary care networks. Studies were selected based on specific criteria related to study design, data collection methods, and outcome measures. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in patient satisfaction (mean score increased from 3.2 to 4.1) following the implementation of urban primary care networks, with a confidence interval (95%) around this effect size. This study provides evidence supporting the effectiveness of quasi-experimental designs in evaluating urban primary care network systems in Ghana. The findings suggest that these networks can effectively enhance patient satisfaction and service utilization. Future research should focus on long-term sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and broader health outcomes to further validate these initial results. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
