Abstract
Historical Foundations of Contemporary African Governance Challenges in Nigeria explore the roots of current governance issues within Nigerian society. This study employs a qualitative analysis approach to review literature and archival materials to trace back the origins of current governance issues in Nigeria. A key finding is the significant influence of colonial administrative structures on contemporary Nigerian governance, particularly in bureaucratic processes and land tenure systems. The historical context reveals how colonial administration has shaped modern governance challenges, necessitating a reevaluation of policy mechanisms to address current issues effectively. Recommendations include revitalizing traditional institutions that have historically managed communal affairs, alongside the reform of bureaucratic practices inherited from colonial rule.
