Abstract

Urban youth in Chad face significant challenges related to identity formation and political engagement. Qualitative research methods were employed, including semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions among young people in Chad's major cities. Young people identified three key themes influencing their identity: cultural heritage, urbanization pressures, and socio-economic disparities. Political engagement varied widely by age groups, with a significant proportion (45%) of participants indicating low levels of political participation. Policy recommendations include the development of culturally sensitive youth programmes and initiatives aimed at addressing socio-economic inequalities in urban areas. Develop targeted interventions that incorporate elements of cultural heritage into civic education to enhance engagement among young people. Implement community-based projects that address socioeconomic disparities.
