Abstract

In coastal Mozambique, traditional maize farming practices have yielded mixed results, with limited adoption of innovative agroecological methods. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 120 smallholder farmers across three coastal districts. Data were collected through structured interviews and field observations. Farmers who implemented agroecological practices saw an average maize yield increase of 25% compared to those using conventional methods, with significant improvements in soil organic matter content (up to 30%). Innovative agroecological practices significantly enhanced maize yields and improved soil health among coastal Mozambican farmers. Government and non-governmental organizations should promote these practices through training programmes and financial incentives. maize yield, agroecology, smallholder farmers, soil health, Mozambique
