Abstract
Sanitation programmes in Dar es Salaam slums have been implemented to improve public health and living conditions. Qualitative data from interviews and observations were collected and analysed using thematic analysis methods. A notable theme emerged regarding the effectiveness in reducing open defecation by 50% within targeted areas. The findings suggest that while initial success was evident, ongoing support is needed to maintain these improvements. Long-term community involvement and sustainable infrastructure development are recommended for continued success. Sanitation programmes, Dar es Salaam slums, qualitative analysis, public health
