Abstract

Urban food security is a critical issue in Accra, Ghana, where vulnerable households face challenges accessing affordable and nutritious food. A mixed methods study combining qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys to evaluate the impact of urban food security initiatives in Accra. Community members reported a significant improvement (45%) in accessing affordable food sources after participating in targeted distribution programmes, while supply chain efficiencies were noted for fresh produce delivery times reducing by an average of 20%. Urban food security strategies can be enhanced through tailored community engagement and improved logistics management to better serve vulnerable populations. Government and non-governmental organizations should prioritise community involvement in planning and implementation phases of urban food security programmes.
