Community Health Worker Programmes and Maternal Healthcare Access in Togo's Urban Centers: A Five-Year Study
Abstract
Maternal healthcare access remains a significant challenge in Togo’s urban centers, despite efforts to improve health outcomes. A longitudinal study design was employed with quantitative data collection through surveys among a representative sample of women who delivered during the study period. During the study, there was an observed increase in CHWPs' engagement from 40% to 65%, which correlated positively with improvements in maternal healthcare utilization (p < 0.01). CHWPs played a crucial role in increasing access and use of maternal healthcare services. Further investments should be made in CHWP training programmes to sustain the positive trends observed. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
