Abstract

School-based mental health services in Nigerian municipalities aim to support students' emotional well-being and academic performance. However, their effectiveness remains unexplored. A mixed-methods approach was employed: a survey of students (n = 120) to gauge satisfaction, and semi-structured interviews with teachers (n = 30). Student satisfaction scores indicated moderate levels of support from mental health services. Teachers reported needing training in specific areas such as anxiety management and stress reduction techniques. The findings suggest that while students appreciate current services, there is room for improvement through targeted teacher training programmes. School administrators should consider implementing teacher-training initiatives to enhance the quality of mental health support provided in municipal schools. student satisfaction, school-based mental health, teacher needs, Nigerian municipalities
