Abstract

The Sahel region of Kenya is experiencing significant climatic shifts characterized by prolonged droughts and unpredictable rainfall patterns, posing challenges to human security. This study employed a qualitative research approach involving semi-structured interviews with local community leaders and affected individuals. Focus groups and key informant meetings were also conducted to gather insights from diverse stakeholders. A notable finding was the significant decline in crop yields by 40% due to erratic rainfall patterns, affecting over 60% of households' food security. Climate change exacerbates existing vulnerabilities among Sahelian communities, necessitating targeted interventions to mitigate its adverse effects on human security. Developing climate-resilient agricultural practices and enhancing access to healthcare services are recommended as priority areas for intervention.
