Abstract

Youth identity in urban Kenya is shaped by intersecting socio-political factors, including colonial legacies and contemporary political dynamics. No empirical data was collected; this is an interpretative study grounded in existing literature on youth identity and political participation in African contexts. Understanding the complex interplay between youth identities and political participation is crucial for formulating strategies to enhance civic education and engagement among young people in urban Kenya. Policy-makers should incorporate youth-led initiatives into civic education programmes, fostering dialogue around national identity while also respecting diverse community affiliations that shape individual identities.
