Abstract

Youth identity formation in urban Angola is influenced by historical legacies of colonialism and post-independence struggles. A qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews and focus groups among urban youth in Luanda. Youth identified three dominant themes: heritage versus modernity, collective memory vs. individualism, and civic engagement vs. apathy. Urban youth in Angola exhibit varied levels of political engagement based on their identity narratives, highlighting the need for nuanced policy approaches. Develop culturally sensitive education programmes that integrate historical narratives and promote inclusive citizenship among urban youth.
