Methodological Evaluation of District Hospitals Systems in Tanzania Using Difference-in-Differences Approach for Clinical Outcomes Assessment

Abstract

District hospitals in Tanzania play a crucial role in healthcare delivery, yet their effectiveness varies significantly across different regions. The study employed a DiD model to analyse clinical outcomes data from multiple districts, accounting for potential confounding factors such as socioeconomic status and patient demographics. A notable finding was that incorporating baseline characteristics improved the accuracy of outcome predictions by up to 15% in certain hospitals. The DiD approach demonstrated robustness in evaluating district hospital performance but highlighted the need for more comprehensive data collection methods. District health authorities should prioritise standardised data collection and regular training for healthcare providers to enhance the reliability of clinical outcomes assessments. Difference-in-Differences, District Hospitals, Clinical Outcomes, Tanzania Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
