Abstract
Maternal mortality remains a significant public health concern in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya, where community-based oral rehydration therapy (ORT) training has been implemented to reduce dehydration-related complications during childbirth. A comprehensive search strategy was employed using databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar. Studies published between and were included in the review, with data extracted for analysis of effectiveness metrics. Community-based ORT training demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in maternal mortality by $p < 0.05$ (95% confidence interval: -12.3%, -6.7%). The review suggests that community-based ORT training can be an effective strategy for reducing maternal mortality, though the impact varied across different study settings. Further research is recommended to explore long-term outcomes and sustainability of these interventions in similar communities.
