Resilience Dynamics in Health Systems during Epidemics across Ethiopia: A Mixed-Methods Exploration
Abstract
Health systems in Africa have faced significant challenges during epidemics, necessitating a deeper understanding of resilience mechanisms. A Mixed-Methods Study combining qualitative interviews with quantitative data analysis was conducted in Ethiopian healthcare settings during epidemics. Interviews were structured and analysed for themes related to system responsiveness and community engagement. Mixed-methods analysis revealed a resilient health system that demonstrated effective communication strategies, albeit with variations across regions regarding vaccine uptake rates (38% vs 45%). The findings underscore the need for tailored interventions based on regional-specific challenges to enhance overall resilience during future epidemics. Policy recommendations include strengthening community engagement and enhancing equitable access to vaccines, particularly in underserved areas.
