Ethics and Governance in AI: A Survey of Burundi's African Societies Context
Abstract
AI ethics and data governance are critical issues in African societies, particularly in contexts where digital infrastructure and educational resources may be limited. A mixed-methods approach involving online surveys distributed across academic institutions and community leaders, with qualitative thematic analysis of responses. 35% of respondents highlighted the importance of data privacy laws as a key theme, indicating a growing awareness among Burundi's African societies regarding AI ethics. The survey revealed significant interest in understanding how AI can be ethically integrated into societal structures without exacerbating existing inequalities. Developing culturally sensitive education programmes and fostering collaboration between tech developers and local ethicists is recommended to address perceived gaps in governance practices.
