Health Systems Resilience in Epidemic Response: Lessons from Ethiopia

Abstract

This study examines health systems resilience in epidemic response within Ethiopia's context. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with healthcare workers and policy makers from various regions across Ethiopia. Data analysis employed thematic content analysis. The findings highlight a significant proportion (60%) of health facilities lacked essential medical supplies, which compromised the ability to respond effectively during epidemic periods. Despite challenges, there were notable strengths in community engagement and early warning systems that contributed to rapid containment efforts. Enhancing supply chain logistics for critical medications and investing in digital health infrastructure are recommended to improve resilience against future epidemics.
