Abstract
Urbanization in African cities has become a significant topic of study due to rapid population growth and migration patterns. The review synthesizes existing literature from various sources without conducting original empirical studies. A key theme identified was the high proportion of residents living in overcrowded informal settlements, with over 70% of urban dwellers residing in such areas. Urbanization has exacerbated social welfare issues, particularly in terms of access to basic services and infrastructure. The review suggests a need for more targeted policies addressing the specific needs of informal settlement residents, including improved sanitation facilities and healthcare provisions.
