The Role of African Universities in Uganda: A Survey on Knowledge Production and Dissemination Efforts
Abstract
Ugandan universities play a significant role in knowledge production and dissemination across various disciplines, including African Studies. The research employs a quantitative survey method to gather data from university faculty members, focusing on their publication records, collaborative networks, and outreach activities. A notable trend identified is the increasing proportion (35%) of publications in peer-reviewed journals compared to informal channels such as conference proceedings or blogs. Ugandan universities are actively contributing to African Studies through robust research output and engagement with both local and international audiences. Given their significant potential, Ugandan universities should prioritise strategies for enhancing collaboration among researchers and promoting open access publishing initiatives.
