Abstract

Southern Ethiopian irrigation agriculture faces challenges in productivity due to limited access to information and technical expertise. Qualitative research methods were employed, including interviews with farmers and focus group discussions to evaluate programme effectiveness and farmer perspectives. Farmers showed a moderate increase (35%) in adopting recommended agricultural practices following knowledge transfer programmes, influenced by perceived benefits such as improved crop yields and water management skills. Knowledge transfer programmes have the potential to enhance farmers' adoption of best practices but require tailored support strategies for sustained impact. Programmes should focus on providing ongoing mentorship and community engagement to foster sustainable farmer adaptations.
