Abstract

Music plays a significant role in North African societies, serving as both an art form and a means of cultural expression. In Morocco, music has historically been intertwined with political movements and social change. The research employs a survey methodology to gather data from Moroccan musicians, activists, and scholars who have been involved in political music movements since the early 2000s. Interviews were conducted to understand their perspectives on the role of music in politics. Music in Morocco has often served as a platform for dissent against government policies. For instance, during the period between and , there was an increase in politically charged musical performances that highlighted issues such as economic inequality and human rights abuses. The findings suggest that music can be a powerful tool for political engagement, providing a space where marginalized voices are heard. This research contributes to the understanding of how cultural expressions influence public discourse and policy-making. Future studies could further investigate the impact of digital media on musical activism in Morocco, as well as exploring the role of music education in fostering civic engagement among young people.
