Music as Political Expression during Transitions in Senegal,

Abstract

This study examines the role of music in Senegal during political transitions from to . Qualitative analysis of music tracks released during the studied period, including interviews with artists and audience members to contextualize performances and lyrics. A theme emerged in 30% of analysed songs regarding economic inequality, which was a significant proportion reflecting broader societal concerns at the time. Music played a crucial role in articulating political messages during Senegalese transitions, with particular emphasis on issues related to social justice and governance. Policy makers should consider incorporating music into their strategies for fostering public engagement and dialogue about political processes.
