Abstract

This study examines the role of universities in knowledge production and dissemination in Rwanda, focusing on the academic sector within African studies. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative data analysis of university publications and institutional records from to . Quantitative data is analysed using descriptive statistics, while thematic coding is applied to interview transcripts for in-depth insights. The proportion of research output focusing on Rwanda-related topics increased by 45% over the study period, with themes including health policy and education reform. Rwandan universities have significantly enhanced their capacity for producing knowledge relevant to national development challenges. Universities should be encouraged to collaborate more closely with government agencies and private sector partners to amplify their impact on local communities and global audiences.
