Abstract

Legal illiteracy remains a significant issue in South Africa, particularly affecting marginalized groups such as indigenous communities and rural populations. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys and focus group discussions to evaluate participant knowledge levels pre- and post-programme participation. Participants showed a notable improvement in their comprehension of fundamental legal rights after participating in LLPs (average score increase by 25% on a 10-point scale). LLPs have demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing public awareness, particularly among marginalized groups in South Africa. Further targeted and continuous educational initiatives are recommended to sustain the gains achieved.
