Abstract

Adolescent suicide attempts in Mozambique are a growing public health concern, with limited evidence-based interventions available. The study employed semi-structured interviews with 20 adolescents who had made suicide attempts or were at high risk, and their parents. Interviews focused on experiences, perceptions, and suggestions regarding EWS. Adolescents reported a strong preference for an EWS that included immediate professional support upon detection of suicidal ideation, coupled with regular follow-up visits to monitor progress. The preliminary results suggest the potential value of implementing an early warning system in Mozambique's adolescent mental health care framework. Future research should validate these findings through larger-scale studies and explore integration into routine clinical practice.
