Abstract

District hospitals in Tanzania are critical for providing essential healthcare services to underserved populations. There is a need to evaluate and improve their operational reliability. A mixed-method approach was employed, including quantitative data collection through standardised surveys and observational checklists, alongside qualitative interviews with healthcare providers. Statistical analyses were conducted using logistic regression models to evaluate the impact of interventions. In a sample of 10 district hospitals, we observed that 75% of patients experienced reduced wait times after implementing new scheduling protocols, which had a significant positive effect on patient satisfaction (mean improvement score = 3.2 out of 5). The findings suggest that systematic interventions can significantly enhance the reliability and efficiency of district hospital systems in Tanzania. Based on these results, immediate implementation of standardised scheduling protocols is recommended to improve service delivery and patient care at district hospitals across Tanzania.
